Bishop McKeown with pilgrims from the Diocese of Derry at Lough Derg in 2025

Each year pilgrims from across the Diocese of Derry travel to Lough Derg – St Patrick's Purgatory, one of Ireland's most ancient places of prayer and pilgrimage.

The diocese will again undertake the Three-Day Pilgrimage from Friday 24 July to Sunday 26 July 2026, offering an opportunity to step away from the pace of daily life, deepen faith, and join others in prayer on this sacred island.

Lough Derg has welcomed pilgrims for centuries and remains a place of prayer, reflection and renewal. Each year, pilgrims from across the diocese travel together to share in this unique spiritual experience.

Date: Friday 24 – Sunday 26 July 2026

We are looking forward to welcoming you on our pilgrimage.

Many people who make the pilgrimage to Lough Derg speak of it as a powerful experience of prayer, silence and renewal. Some return year after year, while others come for the first time seeking space to reflect and deepen their faith.
