The Sister Aloysius Memorial Prize for Religious Art 2018

The 6th Annual Sister Aloysius Religious Art competition, open to young people who are studying Art and Design at GCSE and A Level in schools in the Derry Diocese, took place recently in Saint Eugene's Cathedral.Sister Aloysius, a Sister of Mercy, was a respected teacher and iconographer and the competition was inaugurated in her memory. The purpose of the award is to develop Religious Art through the talents of our young people.

Students were invited to submit one piece of Religious Art from their GCSE and A Level portfolios. A large number of entries were received by the Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre.The judge, Eoghan Devery, was highly impressed with the standard of entries.

The successful artists were:

A level: 1st Prize - Tom Kerr, Lumen Christi College Derry

2nd Prize - Rebecca Mc Kinney, St Mary's College Derry

GCSE: 1st Prize - James B. O'Neill, St Columb's College, Derry

2nd Prize - Matthew Dolan, Holy Cross College, Strabane
