Sleep Out - Stay Awake in solidarity with the homeless

The Diocese of Derry Youth Ministry are inviting young people aged 15-18 to get involved in a Stay Awake/Sleep Out in solidarity with the homeless on Friday 28th February 2020 from 9:00pm until Saturday 29th February 7:00am. 

The event will take place in St. Eugene's Cathedral, Derry. During the vigil there will be reflections, music, speakers from local charities, activities and time outside.

All proceeds will go to De Paul, Damien House, Methodist City Mission, Clarendon Night Shelter and the Simon Community. 

Registration for this event is compulsory before Friday 21st February

Guidelines for Sleep Out/Stay Awake in Saint Eugene's Cathedral

  • Participants must be registered by returning the consent form by Friday 21st February
  • Participants can arrive at the Cathedral from 8.45pm on Friday 28th February
  • Participants will receive a wristband and will record their emergency contact number on this
  • Participants should bring their donations on the night
  • Participants should dress in warm clothes and bring a raincoat, extra layers and a sleeping bag
  • Participants will be invited to spend at least 1 hour outside but this is not essential
  • Every young person will be assigned an adult leader for the entire vigil
  • Tea and Coffee with snacks will be available during the night.Supper will be available, and breakfast will be supplied before they leave at 7am
  • During the night there will be music, talks, prayer, reflections, activities and quiet time
  • Participants are asked to bring a minimum donation of £5 and may collect additional sponsorship
  • There will be security volunteers on the gate during the night and only those with wristbands will be permitted in the Cathedral grounds
  • Participants must be collected by 7:00am on Saturday 29th February 2020
